The Chocolate Primotalii is an extremely hot, superhot chili pepper believed to be a cross between the original Red Primotalii (a 7 Pot Primo and Fatalii cross) and another chili, resulting in large, gnarly, dark brown pods with a smoky, sweet, and floral flavorIt possesses an intense, immediate heat that some reviewers consider the hottest they've ever eaten, potentially exceeding 2.2 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), though it lacks an official rating. The pepper's name refers to its chocolate color and distinct, bumpy, boomerang shape, sometimes with long tails, distinguishing it from its red ancestor.
Key Characteristics
  • Origin:
A hybrid pepper, believed to be a variant or cross of the original Red Primotalii, itself a cross between the 7 Pot Primo and Fatalii peppers.
  • Appearance:
Pods are typically large, gnarly, and dark brown, with some plants producing unstable mustard-colored pods as well.
  • Flavor:
A complex profile with smoky, sweet, and floral notes, though the overwhelming heat tends to dominate.
  • Heat Level:
Extremely high, considered a superhot pepper, with some claiming it is hotter than a Carolina Reaper. The heat hits immediately and can be searing.
  • Usage:
The intense flavor and heat make it suitable for spicy salsas, hot sauces, powders, or for cooking with, though a little goes a long way.
